New Commuter

Hi I would like to know if there is anyone going from UNCC or Lowes Motor Speedway to Uptown Charlotte. I would like to join a group of commuters.

UNCC to Uptown

I often ride from UNCC to uptown. I have a main route and then a couple of variations. I try to avoid four-lane roads as much as possible depending on the time of day and direction of traffic.

The most direct route involves riding a couple of miles on The Plaza which usually has a lot of traffic: From the main entrance on Highway 49 follow Suther Rd., right on Old Concord Rd., left on Newell-Hickory Grove Rd., right on Grier Rd., left on Equitable Pl., right on Covecreek Dr., right on The Plaza and continue to just past Eastway. Cut behind the Mexican restaurant at Eastway and Plaza to Dinglewood and follow to Sugar Creek. Right on Sugar Creek one block and left on Northmore, right on Norwell, left on N. Davidson, right on Brevard (the street sign might say Mallory), right on Parkwood. Just past 16th St., get on the right sidewalk and ride a few yards on the grass to the continuation of Brevard, follow to your favorite uptown destination. Distance 10.2 miles to Brevard and 7th.

I prefer the following route that avoids The Plaza: From the main entrance on Highway 49 follow Suther Rd., right on Old Concord Rd., left on Newell-Hickory Grove Rd., immediate right on Orr Rd., follow all the way back across Old Concord Rd. to N. Tryon St. Right on N. Tryon St. one block and left on Austin, right on Monteith, left on Amberly, left on Snow White, left on Hidden Valley, right on Cinderella. Left on Sugar Creek one block and right on Sofley, left on Northaven, left on Craighead and cross N. Tryon St., right on N. Davidson, right on Brevard (the street sign might say Mallory), right on Parkwood. Just past 16th St., get on the right sidewalk and ride a few yards on the grass to the continuation of Brevard, follow to your favorite uptown destination. Distance 10.7 miles to Brevard and 7th.

The second route is slightly longer and involves crossing N. Tryon and Sugar Creek without stoplights., but it otherwise avoids four-lane streets except for a few blocks on Parkwood. It is generally more pleasant, especially the Hidden Valley neighborhood. In the opposite direction, I take Caldwell north to Parkwood and then left on Brevard.
