Bicyclists are invited to participate in an October 22 “Ride for Hope and Housing” through the back roads of Iredell, Cabarrus, Rowan, and Mecklenburg counties.
The Davidson Housing Coalition is sponoring the ride to support its efforts to provide affordable housing for families, and help them achieve financial stability. There will be three rides of varying lengths, all beginning and ending at the Liburdi-Dimetrics parking lot off Beaty Street in Davidson. Same-day registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. A 100-kilometer ride will begin at 8:30 a.m., a 50-kilometer ride will begin at 8:45 a.m., and a 25-kilometer ride will begin at 9 a.m. The registration for all rides is $25, and all will be fully supported with sag vehicles and rest stops. For a map of the rides and advance registration information, visit www.davidsonhousing.org, or call 704-892-4486. The Davidson Housing Coalition is a non-profit organization founded in 1996 to assist families in the purchase and rental of safe, decent, and affordable housing. Members believe that Davidson's traditional mix of citizens of varying income levels is a distinguishing attribute of the town that should be preserved. The DHC has developed or acquired more than 60 affordable units thus far, including the 32-unit Bungalows apartment complex, which won a Maxwell Award from the Fannie Mae Foundation for exemplary design and construction. The organization now also sponsors a program called HAMMERS, which makes low-cost, emergency repairs to homes of low-income people to help them retain their property. |
